How do you choose your clothes? Do you follow current trends? Which garments do you wear on which occasions? Is there a clear stylistic line in the way you dress? Do you perhaps already have a personal style consultant? And one of the most important questions: does your clothing underline both your personality and the strengths of your figure?

So many questions — and often not easy to answer. All too frequently, men forget in everyday life that an outfit can be so much more than mere protection against the cold. Sadly, this tendency all too often results in a grey mass of men dressed in similar, uninspired attire.

But in certain situations, a man does want to break out from the crowd, stand out in a positive way and be an inspiration to others. Whether on a first date, at an important business meeting or at one’s own wedding. In all these situations, a good, settled and individual style can be helpful in choosing the right outfit. A pleasant side effect of having your own style is that you will also be well and stylishly dressed in every everyday situation. But do not be disappointed if you occasionally get it wrong. Good style comes from plenty of trial and error.

Have you decided to develop your own style but are not sure how to go about it? No problem — these simple tips for a style consultation will help you lay a first foundation.

  • What do you enjoy wearing? What do you feel comfortable in?

Which garments do you regularly wear in everyday life? Which do you wear on special occasions? Go through your wardrobe with a critical eye and gather your favourites together. This creates a good starting point. At the same time, you can also sort out all the so-called „wardrobe skeletons“. Even in your wardrobe, less is more. Take each garment in hand and ask yourself whether it truly makes you happy and adds real value.

  • Analyse your favourites in the wardrobe

Once you have found your favourites, ask yourself for each individual garment what appeals to you about it: is it the fabric? The colour? Or the cut? In this way, you gradually work your way towards a solid foundation for your personal style.

  • Find role models

Become a collector of ideas. Gather pictures of outfits you find appealing. Role models, too, can be a useful guide towards your own style. But you should never copy entire outfits — rather bring individual elements together in such a way that a wholly personal outfit emerges.

  • Find your own must-haves

Something like indispensable it-pieces no longer really exists today. This new freedom gives you even more room to experiment. Find your own must-haves and it-pieces that underline your personality.

  • Class over quantity

Even though it may sound clichéd: invest in good quality. Instead of pouring your money into many poorly made garments, opt for the highest quality, because quality is the foundation of good style. A bespoke suit, a personally designed tie or a perfectly fitting shirt are a good start. Bespoke clothing in particular can accompany you for a lifetime. Beyond that, basics such as a grey or dark blue cashmere jumper are part of a good foundation.

  • Pay attention to authenticity

Good style helps you not to follow every trend blindly. Do not force yourself into clothing in which you do not feel comfortable. Only an outfit worn with confidence appears authentic. Once you have defined your style, you will almost automatically choose garments that reflect your personality. This does not mean, however, that you are restricted — a personal style can develop along with you.

  • Stay meticulous

Even the most individual and highest-quality outfit cannot come into its own if it is not treated with care. Clean shoes and a well-tied tie (if you wear one) are a must — to name only a few examples.

Finding your style is a fascinating subject — but you are not entirely on your own. Professional advice can be a worthwhile long-term investment. If you wish to deepen and refine your journey of style discovery, I would be delighted to support you with an individual consultation.
